This is a limited-edition eye shadow palette that contains 14 eye shadows and is packaged in a shiny duo-chrome shell-shaped package. Many beauty bloggers have noted that the palette is a must-have for those, who like beautiful things, regardless of the quality of shadows. Having tested the palette we can say, that the overall impression is good, and shadows are easy to apply and work with. The only thing we didn’t really like is the shape of pans, which is nice, yet not really user-friendly.
Mermaid Eyeshadow Palette: Closeup
This is a part of their mermaid-inspired makeup product series, which is a logical continuation of their unicorn theme. Besides, summer and ocean theme is not new for the brand already, as they have already got that Rainforest of the Sea series. This palette is noticeably aimed at bloggers and Instagram users, as even before it was launched Tarte ran a serious promotion campaign there. The palette itself is made in shiny blue, green and teal shiny duochrome sea shell. Inside of the palette you will find a mirror with the ‘100% Mermaid’ printed. The shadows housings are shaped like fin. The palette itself closes tightly and you may even find it too tight.

Tarte Mermaid Palette: Swatches
Nude Beach (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
This is a sparkling metallic glitter eye shadow with warm undertones and finely milled shiny finish. The shadow features smooth and creamy texture which is easy to apply both with dry and damp brush. The shadow lasts well for 7 hours.
Shore Thing (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
This is a matte dark peach color with matte finish and warm undertone. Its texture is soft and easy to work with. The shadow performs well over the primer and on bare skin. It applies evenly without being too patchy. However, we noticed certain fallout during the application.
Frose (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
This is a warm pinky golden eye shadow with pearl finish and warm undertones. Its finish is close to duo-chrome, as the color changes a bit from gold to pearly pink. The shadow works better over the eye shadow primer and lasts for 7 hours before it starts losing its initial gloss.
Mermosa (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
Mermosa is a pure gold eye shadow with warm undertones and metallic finish. Despite of creamy texture, we found it easier to apply with damp brush. It blends well with the other shadows from the palette and performs well over the primer. The shadow lasts for 7.5 hours without significant fallout.
Shell Yeah (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
This is a gold metallic color with shiny metallic finish and warm undertone. Compared to the other gold from the palette (Mermosa), the Shell Yeah eye shadow color is closer to copper, as it has those orange reddish undertones. It is sleek and creamy, so applies easily both over the primer and on bare skin. However, it performs significantly better on primed skin, as it won’t crease that way. It wears well for 8 hours.
Salt Water (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
This is a light pink eye shadow with cool undertone and vivid metallic finish. Like the other metallic eye shadows from the palette, the Salt Water is creamy and is easy to apply both with dry and damp brush. It blends well and lasts for 7.5 hours without fading.
Bubbles (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
The Bubbles is a cool pinky violet eye shadow with cool undertone and metallic duochrome finish that changes from pink to blue. The color features soft texture and somewhat buttery formula, which makes it easy to apply. However, both in the pan and when applying to skin, the shadow produces noticeable amount of fallout. Though, after the application is complete, it stays well. The shadow lasts for 6.5 hours, and then it starts losing its duo-chrome finish.
Lagoon (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
This is a deep blue eye shadow with pearl finish and cool undertone. It is well pigmented and is easy to apply. However, you will need to put some effort to blend it out on edges, as the formula is somewhat dense. The texture is not dry, yet the shadow produces significant fallout in the pan and during the application. The shadow blends well with the other shadows from the palette and lasts for 7.5 hours.
Splash (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
The Splash eye shadow from the Mermaid palette is a bright turquoise color with cool undertone and metallic finish. It is well pigmented and provides opaque coverage. It works well both on bare skin and over the primer and blends out easily. The formula is creamy and smooth, yet the shadow is somewhat dusty in the pan. That’s the reason why it gives certain fallout when applied on creases. The Splash wears well for 7 hours without fading out.
Beach Please (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
The Beach Please is a bright coral eye shadow with warm undertones and pearl finish. The shadow is easy to apply with a dampened brush over the primed skin. When we tried applying this eye shadow on bare skin, the shadow gave somewhat patchy finish, which was difficult to blend. However, it worked pretty well over the primer and gave even coverage. The shadow wears well for 8 hours without fading out.
Fin-Tastic (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
The Fin-Tastic is a brownish pink with warm undertones and shiny finish. The texture is smooth, yet it feels somewhat denser, than the other similar shades from this Mermaid palette. It is easy to blend with the other colors. We did not notice the shadow creasing or fallout. The shadow works well both on bare skin and over the primer and lasts for 7.5 hours.
Shipwreck (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
The Shipwreck is a deep pinky brown eye shadow with warm undertone and matte finish. The formula, however, contains barely noticeable glitter particles if you look closer into it. The shadow is well pigmented and features opaque coverage. It blends well and is easy to work with. The Shipwreck by Tarte lasts for 8+ hours when applied over the primer without getting darker of fading.
Sandbar (Tarte Be a Mermaid Palette)
The Sandbar is a typical warm neutral dark beige color with matte finish and essentially warm undertones. The shadow performs well both over the primer and on bare skin, blends out easily and blends well with the other shadows. This shadow can easily become the basic color for everyday makeup. We really enjoyed working with it. The Sandbar eye shadow wears well for 8 hours without fading or creasing.

I like the design of the palette and stuff, yet I am giving it 4 stars because of shape of pan. They look nice, yet are very inconvenient to use! If I had a chance, I'd pick just an empty magnet case in such shape and would fill it with the shadows of my choice.
I bought this palette because I liked the selection of gold and that blue and turquise colors. However, I don't really understand, why they included that many berry (reddish, coral, whatever is the right name for those shadows) shades. They have nothing to do with sea or mermaids in my understanding. Yet the palette itself is cool, love it.
I bought this palette because I like everything cute. You know, those unicorns, now this shell-shaped palette. And I love it not only because of packaging. I like the colors, and that there are not only blue-greens, you know, like you expect to see if the palette says it's mermaid. i like all those gold shadows for summer, as they look really cool on tanned face. So, that's the purchase I'm happy about. Tarte, you rock!
